As this is the last meeting night for this term, as well as the standard Unit in Council agenda we need to look at our Unit planning for Q4 2013 and longer term planning for 2014.

PLANNING FOR Q4 2013
As this is the last week of term, we need to fill in the gaps on our Unit calendar through to the end of the year. Have a look at the DRAFT October/November 2013 Venturer Calendar to see what we have planned and where we have gaps. Bring along some ideas to fill in some gaps.

LONG TERM PLANNING FOR 2014
For this longer term planning it would be good for the Unit to have a think about the Venturer Award Scheme. Have a look through your Record Book marking down the things that are appealing and come along with at least one idea for the program for each of the four Queen’s Scout Award themes;

  • Outdoors
  • Community Involvement
  • Personal Growth
  • Leadership

If you haven’t already, grab a copy of the Venturer Award Planning Sheet [PDF] to have a think through what you wish to achieve in the next 12 months. (This planning sheet and the other related documents are always available via our notice board page)

Expeditions
Have a think about any Expeditions that you want to start planning for – don’t be afraid to think BIG; Hiking the Kokoda Trail, back country skiing in New Zealand, caving in the Blue Mountains, Rafting the Murray River, 4WDing the Flinder’s Ranges, … this will help put together a set of activities and preparation that will feedback into the programming process.

[ROSTER] Sat. 07-SEP – Sun. 08-SEP-2013 Catering

As the Unit accepted this activity back in March this year, it is rather disappointing to find that of 32 shift places for this weekend only 13 have been filled by 7 Venturers, and a further 6 filled by leaders/parents. This leaves us with 14 unfilled places on the roster and places an unfair load on those who are attending.

We need all hands on deck for this activity as this will be the Unit’s major fundraising activity for the year. Starting the setup at 9am on the Saturday we will serve food and drinks up to 4pm; repeated on the Sunday with a pack up at 5pm.

Please look at the roster and see if you can provide time for an extra slot as we should have all slots filled so that we are ready to go Saturday morning – remember this is the Unit’s major fundraising activity for the year!

[NOTICE] 2013-Sep-20 to 22 Armstromg 500

A serious event for seriously adventurous Venturers
Armstromg 500
20-22 September 2013
Somewhere in the wilds of West Gippsland

Armstrong500

I would like to personally invite you and your Venturers to a new but old event called
Armstrong 500. The event is being run by the Gippsland Scout Events Team; the same team that runs Anything Goes.

We decided that there needs to be a challenging event for seriously adventurous Venturers on the calendar and our aim is to provide a challenging hike, with lots of short and sharp challenges along the way. It can also be used as an initiative course.

We have lots of information available on our website at www.armstrong500.com and you can also register to attend on the website.

Thanks and l look forward to seeing you and your Venturers at Armstrong 500.

Yours Sincerely,
Phillip Britt
ARC (VS) Gippsland Region

The cost to enter Armstrong 500 is $40 per person. If you are catching public transport, there is an extra $10 for the cost of the bus from the train station.

The theme of this year’s Armstrong is: Back to the Future…
