This Week 2014-Apr-29 Drop Night (with 2nd Eltham)

The Venturers are blindfolded, placed in the boot of a vehicle … oh, wait. No they’re not that’s the plot of a cheap crime novel – we’re Venturers we don’t use blind folds! Can you find your way using a map and compass if you are dropped off at an unknown location? Time to find out.

There was a winter wind blowing that night. It was one of those cold wet Melburnians that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every hike ends with wet boots. Meek little Scouts feel the edge of their whittling knifes and study every stick closely. Anything can happen. You can even get examples of Venturers navigating without error … (with apologies to Raymond Chandler)

[NOTICE] 2014-Apr-24 (Thu ) to 25 (Fri ) ANZAC DAY

Anzac Day Happenings

**Updated 17-Apr-2014 10:45am**
The plan for this year is to sleep over at Scout Hall on Thursday night; up early Friday for the Dawn Service at Eltham (6:00am service at Eltham’s war memorial hall) and then on to the march at Montmorency.

8:30PM Thu 24th April – At the Hall
The Venturers (and the Scouts) will be having a sleepover and movie night at the Scout Hall. Meet at the Scout hall at 8:30pm (after dinner). Bring your sleeping gear: sleeping bag, stretcher or ground mat, pillow, toilet bag, pj’s. If we can fit the bedding into the Den (so we don’t annoy the Scouts) it would be appreciated. We might even be able to organise a fire drum on ‘the porch’?

The Scouts will be watching either Gallipoli or the Lighthorseman movie in the Hall.

6:00AM Fri 25th April – Eltham Dawn Service
We will be attending the service at Eltham, this means meeting at the scout hall at approx 5:15am to commence the walk around to the Memorial Hall at 5:30AM (Eltham War Memorial, 907 Main Road Eltham). Please note that if you intend to go straight to the cenotaph, parking will be an issue as parts of Main Street will be closed before, during and directly after the service.

NOTE: All members are advised to ensure they are wearing full uniform and are wearing long trousers of the appropriate colour [Navy Blue or Fawn pants (or Blue skirt for Females)], along with dark brown or black shoes. Multi coloured sneakers are not acceptable. Members not dressed in a fitting manner will not be permitted to carry out a role as part of the official Scout presence.
Next of Kin who are wearing medals are reminded that they are to wear medals on the right breast, only the original recipient may wear them on the left.

The VENTURER UNIT will now be cooking a BBQ breakfast for the public at the memorial with the RSL; items will be available for a small gold donation. We will also arrange with the Scouts for our breakfast back at the hall (Bacon and Egg Mc Muffins?)

9:30AM Fri 25th April – Montmorency
Following breakfast around 8:50am, Venturers will need to be transported to the Brumby’s Bakery in Were St, Montmorency (9:15am) so that we may partake in the march commencing at 9:30am. We then march from Were St, to the RSL where the service commences around 10:00 and goes until 10:30am. Refreshments from 11am at Montmorency Eltham RSL
Venturers are then free to go back to the hall and collect their gear and leave.
