The camp is to be held at Emu Bight Campground in The Lakes National Park which is a peaceful bushland retreat in the Gippsland Lakes, fringed by the waters of Lake Victoria and Lake Reeve. We would leave on the Friday and come home on the Sunday afternoon. It is a beautiful spot with the Lakes on two sides and a short drive (5-10 mins) we are on the surf beach or we can paddle across the channel to our own surf beach.

This Week 2014-Nov-03 (Mon.) Unit Council

Unit Council MEETING START: 7:30 pm
LOCATION: Skype – as discussed at last month’s UC, November is a bad time for meeting with Venturers preparing for exams. Rather than meeting in the hall we will try a Skype UC and see how it goes, it will cut out travel time and will allow you to join in as you can.

Venturer Units are run by a group of elected youth members who along with the Venturer Leaders form the Unit Council. Ideally the Unit Council meets once a month and Unit Council positions are elected every 12 months. The Unit Council members are: Unit Chairman, Deputy Unit Chairman, Unit Secretary, Unit Treasurer, Unit Equipment Officer (Quartermaster) and Unit Log Book Officer.

We have chosen Skype as it is a very common web conferencing tool that is available for many platforms, we will be connecting via a Pro account to allow for some of the extra functionality (web conferences are what Darren does as part of his role at work). To have a successful call there are some steps that you will need to take, rather than rehashing them here it’s worth popping across and reading; Looking and sounding good in your Web conference.

It is important that you;
1. Have a current version of Skype installed, and a Skype account created.
2. Isolate your audio streams (headphones are a good solution)
3. Make a test call (If you want to live test with someone, contact Darren and he can take you through a test … if you play your cards right you might be able to test call into the video conference room
4. Check your bandwidth – it might be best to connect as audio only in some cases

For privacy we will not list our Skype addresses online – contact Darren via email: dcr @ or mob:0402 699 513 so that he can add you into the group for the call. If you cannot call from home we can arrange for a central venue that we can have multiple Venturers connecting from.

[NOTICE] 2014 Eltham Festival and Mini Trains

Eltham Festival – 8 & 9 November 2014

Hi Everyone!
We have some fundraising opportunities at the Eltham Festival on 8 – 9 November 2014 and also at the Mini Trains on 9 November.
* On Saturday 8th, the Scout Group will be selling Sausages / Drinks / Fairy Floss and Slushies at the festival.
* On Saturday 8th night time – the Scout Troop have also been approached to clean up after the activities on Saturday Night to raise much needed funds for the Jamboree.
* On Sunday 9th we will be selling Fairy Floss and Slushies at the festival and Sausages at the mini trains.
* On Sunday 9th the Scout Troop will be building a rope bridge for the festival to promote Scouting. It takes a few hours to build and the Scout leaders are organising for 3-4 scouts to assist in construction and also across the day to assist children walking across it – if any Venturers are available to assist it would be good to see some maroon sleeves mixing with the green.

We will require VOLUNTEERS to staff all of these activities and there will be a schedule placed at the hall from Monday night.
Thanks for your continued support!

This Week 2014-Oct-28 The Curse of the Cold Pricklies

The Curse of the Cold Pricklies
Greetings! You are invited to join the 1st Eltham Venturers in an adventure you will never forget. In the realm of Mossy Grove, where the Warm Fuzzies live, life was once peaceful. That was before the Evil Darkness, in the form of the Cold Pricklies, invaded the land. The Warm Fuzzies are a kind and caring people. They always shared their powerful magic with each other and so everyone had enough to share and they never lost any. However, when the fearful Cold Pricklies slowly crept through the land, the Warm Fuzzies were corrupted and scared by the darkness they held the magic all to themselves instead of sharing it with each other.
As a Scout it is your duty to do your bit to save the Warm Fuzzies and protect the realm of the Mossy Grove! To do so you must adventure to the deep centre of the Evil Darkness and let loose all of the Warm Fuzzies you can.

To commence this journey, come to the hall at 7:30pm on Tuesday 28th of October. The adventure will be in the form of a hike so be prepared to walk in any conditions. You will need to bring a range of different things in preparation of the journey ahead.

01. As with any journey that is decided for noble and righteous deeds, you will need to pack with minimal weight for optimal time
02. A magical Compass to find your way as well as a pen or pencil
03. A change of armour
04. A bag of healing magic (First Aid Kit)
05. Supplies to cook with (including a box of matches)
06. Food and water for a weekend
07. Rain protection
08. Sun protection
09. A light beacon (Torch)
10. Bedding (Mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, etc.)
11. Any other items you believe will aid you on your journey
