[NOTICE] 2015-Mar-22 : 2015 Ironman Aid Stations

Ironman2015

Hi All,

Welcome to the upcoming opportunity to help in this year’s Ironman event.

For those of you that helped out last year it’s on again, for those that are new, this is our opportunity to raise some needed funds for our Scout Group at 1st Eltham. The event will require team work from all the kids as well as the parents and friends and scouts both present and past as they are still key members of our community.

Event Date: 22nd March 2015

Event Background
Ironman is an athletic event with participants performing a triathlon consisting of:
• 3.8km swim (Frankston beach)
• 180km bike (Along Eastlink from Frankston to Donvale and return – twice)
• 42km run (Frankston to StKilda)

Full details at: http://ironmanmelbourne.com/ This event is the Asia Pacific championships and contains the current Mens & Women’s world champions, so this is a major event for Melbourne.

We are assisting 1st Chelsea Heights in operating two aid stations. (There is one on the bike leg and the other on the run leg).

Bike Aid Station #4 – Eastlink Freeway under the Seaford Road Bridge on the second lap of the bike
• Assistance is required from 8am through to 2:30pm (peak time will be from 10:30am to 1:30pm) with packing up into the truck towards the rear end of 2:30.
• Requires 35-40 people for the duration
We are seeking assistance for some or all of the time required. If you cannot spare the time from 8:00am to 2:30pm. Can you help out for a few hours? Please let me know.

Run Aid Station #7 – Edithvale (opposite train station on the beach side of Nepean Hwy, at the intersection of Edithvale Rd)
• Assistance is required from 12 noon through to 8:30pm (peak time will be from 2:00 pm to 6:30pm) with packing up into the truck towards the rear end of 8:30.
• Requires 25-30 people for the duration
We are seeking assistance for some or all of the time required. If you cannot spare the time from 12:00pm to 8:30pm. Can you help out for a few hours? Please let me know.

Our job:
To provide food and drink bottles to all the athletes competing (approx 2500 athletes from around the world). Drinks include Water, Gatorade, de-gassed cola. Food for the athletes includes, bananas, chocolate energy bars, gels.

Based on feedback from last year, I recommend that the Rovers, Venturers and older Scouts assist at the bike station (siblings can also help at the same aid station) with the younger Scouts, Cubs and Joeys working at the run aid station. Last year those that participated thoroughly enjoyed the day, and every participant that registers will receive lunch, a volunteer shirt to keep.

Please ask any of your friends, neighbours, co-workers, school friends to assist as this is the great fundraiser for your Scout group for the year and it’s a great fun event.

Please feel free to call me on 0402 699 513 to discuss this further.
