Go Kart booking has fallen through; We will be meeting at the Hall on Tuesday night.
Sheets of lightning lit the sky, the thunder crashed with ominous booms. The old tree beside the hall was shaken fiercely by the wind creating a repetitious screeching sound that resonated in the back of your teeth. The only light was given off by the stuttering candles sparsely spread throughout the building; not quite enough to see but enough light to make the shadows darker, deeper, and somehow more foreboding.
Clustered just inside the light of the candles were four couches arranged tightly in a circle, there was movement within the circle but the residual effect of the lightning meant it was hard to focus on what it was that occupied those chairs; what type of evil was being carried out in this dark foreboding place?
This was the place that so many had warned me to stay away from, it was the Scout Hall of Ominous Doom!!! <– Three exclamation points, it must be very spooky!
Come and join in on some end of term amusement as we leap into some;

This week we will be meeting at Westerfolds Park and will be learning, or practicing, our mapping and navigation skills with some Orienteering/Rogaining. Dress appropriately for the weather, and for moving around the park at night. Bring a torch or a head torch, and a compass if you have one.
Venturing Skills Award
6. How to read a map and orient it by both compass and visible features.
The Unit Council in consultation with the Venturer Scout Leader must approve the prior training undertaken and take into account the competence and experience of the party.
Training must be undertaken in:
iii) Navigation by map alone or by map and compass of a standard appropriate to the expedition undertaken.
What is Orienteering/Rogaining?
* Orienteering: is a family of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed.
* Rogaining: is a sport of long distance cross-country navigation, involving both route planning and navigation between checkpoints using a variety of map types. In a rogaine, teams of 2-5 people choose which checkpoints to visit within a time limit with the intent of maximizing their score.
