This week we will be meeting at Westerfolds Park and will be learning, or practicing, our mapping and navigation skills with some Orienteering/Rogaining. Dress appropriately for the weather, and for moving around the park at night. Bring a torch or a head torch, and a compass if you have one.
Venturing Skills Award

The Unit Council in consultation with the Venturer Scout Leader must approve the prior training undertaken and take into account the competence and experience of the party.

iii) Navigation by map alone or by map and compass of a standard appropriate to the expedition undertaken.
What is Orienteering/Rogaining?
* Orienteering: is a family of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed.
* Rogaining: is a sport of long distance cross-country navigation, involving both route planning and navigation between checkpoints using a variety of map types. In a rogaine, teams of 2-5 people choose which checkpoints to visit within a time limit with the intent of maximizing their score.
