White Ribbon Scarves and Woggles

White-Ribbon White Ribbon
On average, one woman is killed every week as a result of intimate partner violence. Children are also victims of domestic violence. One in four children are exposed to domestic violence which is a recognized form of child abuse. Scouting can do something about this.
Building greater equality and respect between men and women can reduce attitudes that support violence and educate all of us. This is a shameful and sadly often hidden crime that needs to be addressed and it is incumbent on all good men and women to ensure that we stand up and say that violence against women and children is both intolerable and unacceptable.
Scouting supported the White Ribbon campaign in 2014 with the release of a special scarf that the State Team wore in November to coincide with White Ribbon Day on November 25.

This year scarves are available to all Venturers, Rovers and adults in Scouting who wish to wear one to show their support. Simply swear the White Ribbon Oath in front of the Group or Section to be presented with the scarf. Woggles will also be available in a collaboration with the ACT Branch.

❝ i swear
never to commit, excuse
or remain silent about
violence against women
this is my oath ❞

As a White Ribbon Ambassador, I urge all of our adult members to support this cause. Please join me in saying no to violence against women and children.
• White Ribbon Scarves (black with a white ribbon and a special yellow ribbon for Luke Batty) $10
• White Ribbon Woggles $2
All proceeds to White Ribbon to support this cause.
— Brendan Watson, Chief Commissioner

[Hike] 2015-Nov-14 to 15 Lerderderg Gorge hike with Diamond Creek Venturers

14-Nov-Hike

We have the opportunity to go hiking with Diamond Creek in the Lerderderg Gorge.
A great opportunity to get your Venturer Skills (VS) hike completed this year.

On the 14 – 15 November we have an overnight hike on. New territory. It’s planned to go up the Lerderderg Gorge 12 – 15km on the Saturday, pick a suitable camp site, set up, go for a swim & explore, have tea & a campfire (probably). Get up Sunday, quick swim & walk out with swim again before driving home. This is planned to be a VS hike, so not particularly hard.
Who’s going? Need to know asap.

[Hike] 2015-0ct-25 Day Hike – test your backpack packing skills

After asking on the Facebook Group last Monday, who was coming and where Venturers would prefer to hike, the response was … *crickets*
Liam did tell me he needed a practice hike with some hills, so we are using the Oxfam Trailwalker Melbourne (2014) Trail section 4 launching out from the Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground and heading up Lyrebird Track; we’ll hike out to about marker ‘4K’ and turn back to give us approximately 10km (the distance is negotiable).

Where: Dandenong Ranges National Park, Ferntree Gully Picnic Ground.
Corner of Burwood Hwy and Mount Dandenong Tourist Road.
When: Meet at the Cafe at 2pm
What: A hike to practice your backpacking skills with a low risk in getting things wrong; pack a day pack, pack an overnight pack or just come for the walk.
