This Week 2017-Mar-28 Pizza on the Roof

The “Pizza on the Roof” / “Pie int the Sky” Venture activity uses climbing gear as the activities most closely related for risk management are crate stacking, high/low ropes, and other working at height type activities. Because we have the ‘suspended table’ the rope use is more of a rigging exercise than found in most traditional climbing activities. Climbing equipment is used because it has a known load rating and life cycle management. (In some cases recovery equipment may be used for anchors).

Please be in uniform and bring
• $5.00 if you want to have pizza (savory & dessert) and a drink.
• $15.00 for those who have not paid their term fees.

Time to hang the tables and chairs from the roof and eat some pizza!

MEET: at the hall at 6:30 pm
PICKUP: At the hall 10:00 pm ( depending on how long it takes to remove the rig and pack the gear away )
Organised by: Darren

To allow for the Unit to rig the tables and benches in a single night, it is best for all Venturers to familiarize themselves with the objective.
Working out where each of the ropes is used and how they are attached, and the general positioning of the table and benches when they are in the air.

This Week 2017-Mar-14 Night Drop

The Venturers are all strapped into the spacecraft seats before being launched into space … oh, wait. No they’re not, that’s the plot of a Sci-Fi novel – we’re Venturers and we’re not constrained by such trivial things as gravity! We can walk the Solar System. Can you find your way using a map and compass if you are dropped off at an unknown location? Time to find out.

Come dressed appropriately for the weather.

MEETING START: We will be leaving the Hall at 7:00 pm (sharp)
** Let us know if you are running late as we will be driving Venturers to the mystery drop off point and you don’t want to be left behind! **
MEETING CLOSE: 10:30pm (*ish – if Ventuers become geographically embarrassed, times might vary.)
LOCATION: 1st Eltham Scout Hall
Organised by: Leaders

* You will need to have an up to date profile on Care Monkey, or you will need to bring a completed PIR – Personal Information Record for tonight.

TIME: 08:30am – 12.00 noon

MEET: Under the trestle railway bridge near Panther Place, Alistair Knox Park, Eltham.
Everyone (inc parents / siblings) welcome to attend and clean up the park, river and surrounds.

CLOTHING: Wear old clothes, old runners and hat; don’t forget the sunscreen and water bottle. You also need to bring gloves preferably the work/garden type.
Bring your scarf along, just in case there are photo opportunities.

VENTURERS: As with previous years, we will probably be concentrating on pulling trolleys and larger items from the creek. If you have wetsuit it might be worthwhile wearing. If river conditions are not suitable we will move to other targets. (We do not have Darren’s 4WD and recovery kit this year.)
