This Week 2017-April-17 Getting the community involved – A world of Opinions and Views pt. 1
This week is based on a community focus where debates and speakers present issues relevant to the youth of today.
We have members from two Youth Service groups coming to talk about their areas of work, these including:
Denzil – from Nillumbik Youth Services
Robert – Living Faith Church in Greensborough
Over the course of the next little while we will have a fair bit of a community focus, and as part of this, following the two speakers (around 8:30 – 8:45) we will continue with a debate on some current topics in the media.
Please have some points for and against prepared so we can have a knowledgable and structured debate.
The debates will go for 5-10 minutes per discussion point with 60 seconds to state your rebuttal or point.
The topics are:
“Should Muslims be granted paid breaks to pray in Australia?”
“Should the initial (Learner) driving age be lowered or increased in Victoria and if so what age should be granted the right to drive?”
“Should sexting be classified as child pornography, (and have the ramifications of being put on the sex offenders list) or made legal if the teenagers consent and of legal age difference (same as sex age differences)?”
“Should D.A.D.S. Rules be applied to all Venture camps and activities – is there any exceptions (Are they still relevant)?” **DADS Rules are: No Drugs, No Alcohol, No Derogative language and No Sex at Venturer Camps or Activities.
Please be in uniform and bring:
At least 2-3 points on each of the discussion points above (this will sign off Section (1) of VA Ideals
Your Record Book
Involvement in both the guest speakers talks and the unit debate will enable Section (1) of VA Ideals to be signed off and Section (5) of VA Citizenship!
