This Week 2015-Dec-15 Christmas Dinner

festive
Let’s go out for dinner and farewell 2015!
The plan is to meet at McDonalds, and then progress to KFC, and then on to Hungry Jacks. We’ll wander back to be collected from McD at 9:30pm.
Can you put together a Christmas Dinner from their menu?
Does a nugget compare to turkey if you add cranberry sauce?
This means that you can leave your parents in the McCafe and collect them after we have wandered

Make sure to Dress festive – you can wear a Santa suit, reindeer costume, dress as a Christmas Tree, wear that super awesome ugly Christmas knit, or maybe just some tinsel in your hair.

Bring some trimmings – do we need a portable Christmas Tree? Perhaps we do need some cranberry sauce and some Christmas custard. What will you bring to make your meal festive?

MEETING OPEN: 7:30pm
MEETING CLOSE: 9:30pm
LOCATION: Meet at McDonalds in Eltham
(corner of Bridge St & Bolton St, Eltham)

2015 Christmas Hamper Donations

hamper
2015 has been a hard year for lots of people – some more than others. There are many families and individuals struggling and the pressures, expectations and glitter of the festive season often makes it worse. Some of us are fortunate to have enough and to be able to reflect, relax and enjoy presents and the presence of friends and family. Many can’t and don’t.

Currently there are local families who need a bit of additional support; and our Scout Group is planning to collect a Christmas hamper to assist them.

If you could possibly spare a few food items, or would like to buy some Christmas presents for families, or could possibly donate some vouchers we would be incredibly grateful. Drop off your goods in the basket located in front of the kitchen at the Scout Hall.

This Week 2015-Dec-01 Lights, Camera, Action!

Bring a skit, a stunt or an act. Bring a costume. Bring yourself 🙂
Tonight we hit the stage for our first “Lights, Camera, Action!”.
There will be theatre sports, there will be games, there will be lights (and if you are unlucky leaders on Singstar *oh the horror!*)

We will also finish off the night packing the trailer so we are ready for VG this weekend.

Singing and acting are excellent for training in self-expression. Also they mean good team work, everybody learning his part and doing it well, not for applause for himself but for the success of the whole show.

This Week 2015-Nov-24 Platypus Project : Macroinvertebrate Sampling

Sampling

Why sample macroinvertebrates?
Macroinvertebrates are useful indicators of the health or condition of wetlands and other water bodies. They respond to many kinds of pollution, including chemical pollution and physical disturbance to the landscape around the site, wetland structure, and hydrology.

This week we will test some pre-collected water samples from around Eltham, we will see if the macroinvertebrates can tell us a story about the location the water samples were taken, how good the water quality might be and if the area might be good habitat. If you haven’t used the water quality chemical testing kits, it would also be a good night to give them a test.

Once you have your technique sorted, wouldn’t it be great to get out and do some samples (and games) with the Joeys and the Cubs using the “Mini Beasts” theme? We’ll test a few games and see if they would be good to run with the Joey Mob or Cub Packs.
