Unit Programming Night

Program Planning
In the Venturer Scout Unit, planning is undertaken as a partnership between youth and adults with a goal of developing a program that includes;

  • ideas from the whole unit
  • supporting the personal progression of all unit members
  • being created by the Unit Council
  • being supported along the way by adults

There are six key steps in the program cycle:

Review>
1. Reviewing the success of the current program cycle. This is done by short term small groups of 4-6 Venturer Scouts.

Plan>
2. Gathering all the information that’s happening in Scouting and the community
3. Listing the personal progression ideas of all unit members (by individual)
4. Program planning (Unit Council)

Do>
5. Monitor the Program (Unit Council)

Review>
6. Ongoing Review

❝ All Scout programs should be adventurous, fun, challenging and inclusive for all Scouts involved. By following the programming model for each age section, young people are able to create a Scout program that is engaging and suitable for all members of the Unit or Patrol. Some Scouts may need support to contribute their ideas, and to deliver their ideas in the program. ❞

Please have a read through these two documents, to get an idea of how programming works in the Venturer Section;

Look Wide: This is where our Major Projects come into the picture
Have a think about any Expeditions or Projects that you want to start planning for – don’t be afraid to think BIG; Hiking the Kokoda Trail, back country skiing in New Zealand, caving in the Blue Mountains, Rafting the Murray River, 4WDing the Flinder’s Ranges, … this will help put together a set of activities and preparation that will feedback into the programming process.

Look at the programming tools and ideas that have been posted on the socials, and put your ideas for 2024 onto the new Unit IdeaBoardz.
